Can't open PyxelEdit -- hangs indefinitely

Attemping to open the paid version of PyxelEdit results in an indefinitely long load time (i.e., it never opens). It worked perfectly fine prior to December 18th, and I haven't been able to get it to work since then.

Some info:
  • Using Windows 8 x64
  • Running the program as administrator does nothing
  • Running the program in various compatibility modes does nothing
  • When I attempt to open PyxelEdit, it does not show up in TaskManager
    • Killing explorer.exe and then opening a new instance of it will remove the indefinite loading icon (spinning blue wheel)

Hi,
Try renaming the config file in /Users/<User>/AppData/Roaming/PyxelEdit/Local Store/ to something else (you could delete it but if it is the problem I'd be interested to look at it).

If that doesn't work, are you able to run another Air application? If not, try uninstalling and reinstalling Air.

Let me know how it turns out.

Results:
  1. Renamed config file: same problem, nothing changed
  2. Deleted config file: explorer.exe no longer hangs, but PyxelEdit still doesn't start up
  3. Reinstalling Adobe Air: well... reinstalling it causes explorer.exe to hang. I guess the issue is Adobe Air, which is unfortunate because it seems that I can't use PyxelEdit now.

Yea that sucks..
Did you uninstall it and then reinstall it, or just install it on top of the existing installation?
There's this trouble shooting guide, dunno if it helps much: http://helpx.adobe.com/air/kb/troubleshoot-air-installation-windows.html
Maybe you can find an error you can google in the installation log in C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Adobe\AIR\logs.
You could also try the latest beta release: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html

Just tried installing on top of my existing installation and then uninstalling/reinstalling, and neither solved my problem. Going to dig into online error reports -- I'll let you know if anything comes of my search.

Thanks for your help!

Hi WegPast,
Sorry to hear it's not working.
Have you updated to the latest Air version? You could try running another Air app to see if it's a general problem with Air or Pyxel Edit. Let me know how it goes.

Hi Danik and thanks for the quick answer.
Yes I tried another Air app (https://code.google.com/p/swfobject/downloads/detail?name=swfobject_generator_1_2_air.zip&can=2&q=) and it works :/
And I have the latest Air version.

You could try removing the app data folder at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\PyxelEdit or similar. That should get rid of any corrupt data files.
If that doesn't fix it try uninstalling and reinstalling Pyxel Edit and/or Air if you haven't already.

I have already done unintsalling/installing Air and Pyxel, it doesn't solve the problem... But at least, the portable version works :)
And deletting the data folder make PyxelEdit asking for the registration key once again. (no problem there, I re-enterred it and it works)
So I may use the portable version...

ps: I'm on windows 7 N pro version. Maybe it's important to mention it...

That's weird, not sure what the problem could be. I also use Win7 N so that shouldn't matter.
Good to hear the portable version worked though!
