At the moment the scroll wheel is the main way to zoom in and out, but I will add hotkeys for it also.

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but do I really have to select the zoom tool to zoom in and out?
No "CMD +" and "CMD -" on Mac?
(P.S. I'm liking Pyxel so far! Trying it out to see if I want to migrate from Pixen ^^)

That would be great, my tablet+keyboard combo doesn't have a scrollwheel ^^.

Maybe the zooming could do with smaller increments as well. Instead of doubling the image-size each step, perhaps increments of 4 or 8 would be better?

Yes, I agree. I will probably make manually specified zoom levels instead of power of two to get more gradual zoom while still allowing quickly zooming to high/low magnification.
