Layers need work

I'm loving this editor for background/tile editing, but the only thing that lets it down is Layers, it's a horrible experience when you have your character broken up into different layers, needing to copy and paste each and every layer for every frame is really driving me nuts.

Is there any plans on fixing this, or should I look elsewhere for character animation?

Anyone have any good alternatives in the meantime?
