There is a difference between stroking the shape with a square or round brush though (with a brush size > 1). The rectangle tool defaults to the square since then you get sharp corners, while the ellipse tool defaults to round to get a more uniform line around the shape. Not sure if it's that common to want a rectangle with round corners or an ellipse drawn with a square brush, but I left it in since I can think of some use cases at least.
