Data loss bug

Hello,

I've been using PyxelEdit for two days and today I experienced a pretty horrifying bug.

If I save my project and leave PyxelEdit open, then close my laptop so it goes to sleep, followed by re-opening it to wake it up, then my file gets deleted!

The project file will still exist and the filesize stays the same size it was, but it gets full of 0's when viewed in a Hex Editor.

Due to only keeping one version of this project saved, we lost a days worth of work.

System information:
  • Toshiba Satelite
  • Windows 10 x64
  • PyxelEdit Portable 0.3.108
Steps to reproduce:
  • Save a project file for the first time to prompt a file location
  • Re-save the project (Since it's the project you're now working on it won't ask for a location)
  • Close laptop to initiate sleep mode (Not hibernation)
  • Re-open laptop and login
  • PyxelEdit project window will be empty but the project still loaded
  • Close and reopen PyxelEdit and attempt to load project
  • Invalid state 0x0 error
From here you should see your project file looks to be the correct filesize, but viewing in a hex editor will be full of 0's compared to another project that actually has data.

Thanks.

Hmm that sounds really unfortunate and i'm sorry to hear that you lost a day of work. I tried to replicate the problem on my mac, though without success... it might be a windows related problem, which i don't have, so i can't test it.

Is there anyone else that would be able to try and replicate this problem on a windows machine?

Are you able to replicate this problem successfully every time?

My last advice to you would be to get in contact with Danik, who is the developer to see if he knows something about this problem and / or maybe opt in for the pre-release version which fixes a lot of things to see if it still happens in that version.

Hello,

Thank you for the response! We have only tested it on the one laptop because I didn't want to activate the license on multiple machines when I only purchased one license. It did happen again when we tried to replicate it though.

How would I go about getting into the pre-release version? I'm assuming it's by following these directions? https://pyxeledit.com/forum/discussion/396/prerelease-beta-testing

Which I just did in case that is it.

Ahh i see, i'm sure you could be allowed to use the license on another machine for testing purposes, though you would of course have to get in contact with Danik to be sure of that. Yes to get into the pre-release beta, you have to follow the directions from that link, then you should receive an email at some point.
