Lighten and darken

Instead of a selecting different shades of say the color brown can we just get a lighten and darken option similar to piq.com

Why would you want that compared to how it is currently? Having control over saturation, lighting, shading and hue, will broaden your color perspective much better than a single shading scale. Unless you intend to choose your colors from the color space manually, i don't see any reason why you would limit yourself to a single darken/lighting scale.
