I think this would be an excellent feature for Pyxel, and also add a new original feature currently not seen in any modern pixel art application to date. We all know CRT monitors and scan lines are a thing of the past, but I for one would really love to see a scan line / CRT monitor preview mode in Pyxel as an option to turn on or off at any moment.
It would be really helpfull (in my opinion) if you were able to view your current project, simulated in true retro style with scaliness etc. I think this feature would help all 2d pixel artists create truly authentic retro style graphics. Thanks for reading.

I am pretty surprised that no one has responded to this particular request. I genuinely feel this would be a benefit to all pixel artists, especially as most modern retro style games have an option to display scaliness and old tv types etc before starting a game.

If a few options for these display types could just be featured in the preview panel of Pyxel, I think this would benefit the software immensely, especially from those graphic artists that are seeking to create genuine nostalgia from back in the day.

Speaking for myself, as a mature pixel artist from back of the day of the Amiga and Deluxe Paint III and IV etc, I find that I will produce my best pixel art by using my amiga emulator on my mac with the scan line/CRT monitor preference turned on while running Dpaint. I find it really helps with dithering and playing with gradients and finer details etc. Especially as all pixel art was created back in the day using CRT technology.

Perhaps you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Would love to hear any ones thoughts!

Peace!

Well it would be an interesting feature and beneficial for game developers. While i can't see the idea in having such feature for artists, It would be a nice addition if you were working on a game, as you would be able to preview the "intended look" before importing it into your development framework.

There are still a lot of things that i would like to see in PE and while this feature sounds interesting, it's personally a lower priority for me, compared to some of the other wishes.

I too would like to hear what other artists thinks about such implementation?

I think it's a fun idea, and potentially useful, but since I'm so short on time it has to be low priority for the moment. Maybe later, or if I bring in more developers on the project.
