Layer Locking?

I tried looking but couldn't find any other topics on this subject, but that would be quite handy as I often end up making changes on a layer that I should not be on (the fault is with me not the software there). So it would be handy to be able to lock layers so I cannot do anything on them until they are unlocked, just like how you have the visibility toggle button.
