To upscale a sprite from 32 to 48 would mean the computer makes choices about which half of the image should be doubled, and which shouldn't, it's not going to look good.
I think the best thing to do would be to load your 32 sprites as a tiled image of 32x32, then change the canvas size to 48x48 and center the image.
You'll have some space all around your sprites, but they will be useable. You can also then edit them to be taller, but this will take some time.
Is the object of this to update a VXAce spritesheet to work with MV?
