Workflow for using tiles as a visual guide that aren't saved to the images?

So I like to connect the tiles and draw something out how I would in a game, but then everytime I want to save that image, I need to clean up those tiles, and maybe even get the image size back to its original size. There isn't like some kind of sandbox window to draw this stuff is there? What are your guys work flow? Thanks.
